Green Antioquia: projects that protect its biodiversity
Antioquia is the most biodiverse department in Colombia, with a great variety of ecosystems and species that make it a natural and cultural treasure. But this heritage also faces some threats that put its survival and sustainable use at risk.
In response to this situation, projects have emerged that contribute to the protection and sustainable use of Antioquia's biodiversity, a natural and cultural heritage that benefits all inhabitants of the department and the country.
Conservation projects in three basins in Antioquia and Tolima: The Grupo Argos Foundation leads three projects for water protection and forest restoration in the basins of the Claro and Cartama rivers in Antioquia and the Saldaña river in the department of Tolima. During 2022, the Foundation signed 185 new conservation agreements for the protection of 3,485 hectares. Currently, more than 9,300 hectares benefit from these conservation projects.
Recovery and Restoration of Cultural Heritage: The Mayor's Office of Medellín protects the inventory of urban and rural architectural, sculptural and archaeological assets that are the property of the municipality of Medellín by implementing conservation and restoration plans that allow for the vindication of their aesthetic, symbolic and historical values.
Multi-stakeholder alliance for conservation and tourism in the eastern and middle Magdalena regions of Antioquia: the Government of Antioquia, Cornare, the Grupo Argos Foundation and AFE formed an alliance with the aim of generating capacities and joint work on issues of active and productive restoration, promoting nature tourism, solid waste management, environmental protection and environmental education.
