Colombia: a beacon of sustainable construction in Latin America
Colombia has positioned itself as a leader in sustainable construction issues, promoting initiatives ranging from energy efficiency to the circular economy. The Biocasa Forum 2021, organized by Camacol, became a crucial stage to discuss and advance these issues. But what makes Colombia a beacon in sustainable construction?
The construction sector in Colombia is committed to sustainability. The adoption of the circular economy concept is a clear example of this. The idea is simple but powerful: recover and reuse products and materials so that they re-enter the production cycle. This approach not only minimizes waste but also reduces the demand for new raw materials.
EDGE (Excellence in Design For Greater Efficiencies) certification has been a pillar in Colombia's sustainable construction strategy. With more than three million certified square meters, this standard not only guarantees energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact, but also adds differential value to projects, making them more attractive to investors and buyers.
Colombia has set clear goals for the future: one in five buildings certified with EDGE by 2023 and carbon neutrality in the sector by 2050. These goals, backed by regulations, offer incentives for the adoption of sustainable practices, including tax benefits and ease of obtaining permits.
Quantifiable impact
Regulations are not only a guide but also a measurement tool. Sustainable projects in Colombia have demonstrated significant savings:
Energy savings: 109,597 MWh per year.
Water savings: 3.6 million square meters per year.
Emissions reduction: 51,587 tons of CO2 per year.
These numbers translate into well-being and a better quality of life. We invite you to discover our sustainable architecture projects.
